Operation Tween Room Makeover: Part I

The first week of March, my sweet and overly dramatic little girl will be turning 9. Back in December, when she was dreaming up all of the things she wanted for Christmas, she had a "room of her own" on the wish list. Lucky for her, we just so happen to have an extra room currently being utilized for guests. After deliberation between hubs and I, we decided giving her her own space might force her to be responsible and could alleviate some of the strife between her and the others. So, we put into motion a plan to give her a space to call her own. The key for us, is to re-use as many items as possible, so we can keep the cost to a minimum.

First up, I chose a comforter. I figured that would be the foundation for everything else. I decided to go with THIS ONE from Target. I thought it was a good fit because it was girly, but a little bit grown-up too. My daughter also loves hot pink.

I had been scouring Goodwill to try to find a lamp I liked. Which, by the way, if you're looking for something particular, visit during the holidays! Everyone is trying to make room for all of their new goodies. I scored this beauty for $5.

I decided to spray paint the base a gloss black ($7), which I also used on another project. I got super giddy when I found silver glitter spray paint at JoAnn's. It was about $3. I also bought a pink satin ruffle trim for the top and bottom. That was another $3. So, I'm chalking the total cost up to about $15. And, this is how it turned out:

I wish you could see it in person - that glitter shade is amazing!

The next project was to re-use the old pictures that were already in that room. The frames are already black and in really good shape, so I just needed to replace the pictures. I decided to buy some pretty scrapbook paper. I found the perfect sheets and just finished them off with a few rhinestones on top.

It would be an understatement for me to say that I can't wait for this room makeover to come together. I may be channeling my inner 9-yr old just a little bit. It will be a few weeks, but I want to share the end result with you all. The wait will be so worth it. ;)
