Busy Bee
I am still here friends. I have just been busy creating some fun, secretive type stuff for the new call over at Papercrafts Mag. I've found that I need to focus only on it when preparing to submit, otherwise I get too stressed out. The call ends on the 10th, so I hope to be back with new, fresh card ideas then. Hang with me. I appreciate it.

Spot's Debut
Today over at Papercrafts Mag on Facebook, go-to gal Betsy Veldman asked if we had ever used any downloadable sentiments from the Papercrafts website. Well, you bet your bottom dollar I did! I thought I would share:
A friend of mine had asked for a birthday card that was possibly doggy related. Wouldn't you know that I had just received my copy of Go-To Sketches and lo and behold this cute little doggy sentiment looked back at me. I colored him with my prismacolors, added a few buttons and voila! What do ya think? I think I shall call him Spot. :) Thanks for stopping by.

Scrappin' Outside The Box
Alright people, I had an epiphany today. I was in the process of cleaning up my space, because it was darn near impossible to find anything anymore. You've been there. Anyway, as I was getting ready to scoop my scraps into the trash can, I had a thought. Why not force myself to make a card out of what was sitting on my desk? So, I literally put the usable scraps on my desk into a pile. This is what it looked like:
I started to put the pieces together and form a card. I have to admit, it was really hard. They were colors I wasn't used to using together and the shapes were all goofy. Nothing seemed to gel. Finally, I sorta found a groove and came up with this:
Those diamonds were causing me all sorts of trouble until I discovered they made a pretty cool star-looking flower when layered on top of each other. And, I really thought they looked cool as a border. Though this isn't one of my favorite cards, I really liked the challenge. Since I had limitations, I was forced to think outside of the ways I would normally use my stuff. Hmmm, maybe there's a life lesson there too. :) Go on, try it yourself. Maybe you'll make the most awesome card you've ever made and learn something new in the process. Happy scrappin'!

The Giveaway Winner (and a Trigger)
Good morning!
I tried to get this post up sooner, but my feet are dragging today. My retreat weekend left me refreshed in spirit, but a little on the sleepy side. Plus, Satan sure knows when you are on a Spiritual high because first thing I had to deal with this morning was my 3-yr old peeing all over the floor. She had made it to the toilet, just not ON the toilet. Good thing it was on the linoleum and not the carpet.
First business today is my entry for the Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World. This week's inspirational photo; these napkins from IKEA (my absolute fave store):

I wasn't feelin' this color scheme, but I do love how clean and modern circles are. When I looked at those circles the first thing I thought of was a target. I had to do a really quick card since I was packing up to leave for my retreat weekend. So, this is what came out:
Now I know the REAL reason you all came here today is to see who I drew for the winner of those beautiful Mother's Day gifts. Do you remember what they looked like? Let me refresh your memory.
Yeah, now you're drooling with anticipation, aren't you? I threw everyone's name into a cute little flower pot I made on my retreat and let my daughter draw out the name...yes, the same one who had me cleaning up her mess earlier. Notice she is freshly cleaned!
And the winner is:
Congratulations, Angel!
Angel, I do not have any way to contact you, so please contact me with your mailing address in the next day or two to claim your prize (email me). Otherwise, I may have to choose another winner. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by and browsed my blog! And many thanks to Jamie for sending her followers my way as well. Be sure to return to her blog to check it out if you didn't get a chance. Enjoy your week!

Time to Refresh and Renew
Just a quick post to say Happy Friday and hope you have a great weekend! I'm going away this weekend on a Women's Retreat and I can't wait to spend time with some wonderful ladies and my awesome God. I had hoped to get some cards in today (maybe I can still sneak in a quick one or two), but I have alot to do to prepare....laundry, packing, etc. I leave you with this:
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~Matthew 6:25-34
God is good my friends, He is good. I'll be here Monday with the winner of my giveaway.

Feelin' Earthy, Dude!
I made a card today (shocking, I know). This one began with this sketch for the challenge over at Get Sketchy (last week I made the Top 5, hooray!):
Hearts and me don't get along too well. We have this sorta love-hate relationship. They have a particular place and time in my life, especially at V-day, but they aren't my first choice. Sooo, circles coaxed me into using them instead. Here's the result:
Apparently, indoctrination and brainwashing have done their part to influence my brain. About halfway through making this card, I realized that I was making a very "Earth-friendly" card. The relevance being that this week is Earth Week. It was totally unintentional, but I figured I was already headed down that road, so why not continue and make the whole doggone thing earthy.
The background is a flap from a cardboard box that I repurposed by tearing off the top layer. For the globes, I used an antique gold powder and embossed it. That stamp has been gathering dust on my shelf for years. It was one of the first ones I ever bought and it is HUGE. I sponged everything like mad to make it more aged. Continuing the earth-saving theme here, I made that little square in the middle. All I did was used some copper wire and wrapped it around my 1" x 1" square acrylic block (you know, the one you put clear stamps on). Once I was done wrapping, I pulled it off and held it together by wrapping two short copper pieces around it. All done! Happy Earth Week!

Cuttlebug Happy
Ahhh, loving my cuttlebug! I spent some time yesterday trying out all of my embossing folders and then incorporating them into my card for today. I put this card together for the challenge over at The Play Date Cafe. You should check it out and play along too! The goal was to use black and white with a splash of orange. They offered this up as the inspiration:
I can't take all of the credit for this idea. I was extremely inspired by the first sketch done by Kim Kesti in the "Go-To Sketches" magazine and examples given. I fell in love with that diamond pattern. I thought, what a great way to incorporate all of the textures I had created on my cuttlebug, so I proceeded to emboss and cut diamonds (hint: I cut one diamond and traced it to get the others). I layed out the pattern on white cardstock and then sewed over the diamonds with a zig-zag stitch. It did take some time, but I absolutely love the mixture of textures. This card doesn't only look pretty, it also FEELS pretty. I know that little butterfly has been way overused by everyone, but I just got mine and I like it, darnit! So, he made it onto this card. Now, onto the orange. Do you ever get frustrated that you have so much ribbon, but still can't find the right one to match? I sure do. So, instead of running out to the store and buying one to match, I raided my stash of fabric scraps from my quilting days. I found this lovely orange fabric and decided to use it instead of the ribbon. What do you think? It seemed to all pull together so well. I'm really happy with the results. Thanks for visiting today. Be sure to enter my blog giveaway, after all, I want to return the favor to my faithful fans!
I am a HUGE fan of black and white with a hint of color. In fact, my bathroom is painted white with black flowers and I've used red towels, shelves, etc. as accents. So, I was happy to take this challenge head on. Admittedly, my stash is running a little shy in the area of orange. I had to use a few tricks to fit it in. Here is the card:

Weekend Wonderment
What a weekend it was! So full of lots of surprises. At this moment, I'm still jumping with joy inside at how much excitement there was, it's lucky this girl didn't keel over from overexposure to pure awesomeness! (phrase courtesy of kung-fu panda, love that movie)
Will you join me now in doing a little happy dance? Spin around, jump up and down, sing a cheerful tune, clap your hands, yada, yada, yada. Alright, alright, I'll tell you what's up. On Saturday, my son had a baseball game. My husband left early to take him to pictures. A little while later, my husband texted me and told me he had something for me, but I was gonna have to look for it. Thus was the beggining of a super fun scavenger hunt. He sent me all over the place, a cemetary, the neighborhood Church, a shed, the library; he even made me do Geometry (I have to admit I'm a little rusty on that one and had to beg for help). I can't imagine how much time he must've spent on this thing. Finally, around 6 o' clock that evening, I got to that last clue, opened up his car trunk and found......A CUTTLEBUG complete with several embossing folders and dies! Hooray for me! See what I mean? I think my husband deserves the "pure awesomeness" title, don't you? I have been wanting one of those so badly and he knew it. He did inform me later that we won't be doing anything for our anniversary this year, which is in June, but who cares! I got a new toy to play with. So, I spent alot of my weekend trying it out. Oh, and my 6-yr old daughter loves it too. She can do it all on her own. I put together these two cards:
I'm not terribly happy with them, but it's going to take a little while to get used to using the machine and finding the right ways to incorporate its elements. I am pretty pumped about using it to create my sister's wedding invites though.
On another note, I got flipped off this weekend while driving to my son's game. I was trying to let the guy in in front of me. Of course, he had waited until the last minute to get over, but I was letting him in anyway. He kept sitting and sitting, so finally, I was telling him to "hurry up and get over already" in my softest, most polite voice ever (alright, so maybe it wasn't soft or polite) and I think he mistook that as me cussing him out. He finally merged and then I saw that little birdy come back at me. I can't believe it. Here I was trying to do a nice deed, and despite HIS mistake, I'm the bad guy. It just pains me to see people act that way.
Welp, I have to get groceries today and get in a good workout since I've been slacking on that. Btw, don't forget to check out my free giveaway by clicking on the link over to the right. Hope you have a great day!

Dreaming of Roses
Well friends, I know I'm completely addicted to stamping and cardmaking when I dream about what my card is going to look like for a challenge. I'm not talking daydreaming about everything I want and wish I could have, I mean I literally in my sleep was dreaming card layouts. Let me share with you what my unconciousness was apparently thinking about. It all started with this fantastic photo that Cath posted for the Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World.
Isn't this gorgeous? I would love to see this as a
surprise sitting on my table when I got home?
It's no wonder I was dreaming about roses, pinks and reds.
I had two takes on this trigger. For the first one, I was inspired by the colors from the Tuesday Trigger. I also turned to the bonus sketch over at 2 Sketches 4 You created by Kay Sibley. I turned the sketch 90 degrees to the left.
I've noticed frames being used alot on cards. If you're like me and don't have any frame stamps or die-cuts, try this little trick. I took a curly-q stamp, stamped once, then rotated 180 degrees and stamped over the top of the previous image to close it. voila! Pretty nifty, heh?
My second take on the Trigger:
I guess using a flower was inevitable, so it appeared on this card. I really liked the clear vase from the photo, so I wanted to try and incorporate some clear elements into my card.
For the flower, I used some acetate flowers from Close To My Heart and layered them with paper flowers. To add some texture, I used sandpaper on the bottom flower. I also used some Distress crackle paint on that top flower. The card seemed too plain with just the flower, so I added the ribbon leaf and a few colored rhinestones. The sentiment is a rub-on.
Be sure to check out my previous post for a chance to win a few handcrafted items made by yours truly. Have a great weekend! Wishing you dreams of ribbons, buttons and paper dancing in your head.
FREE STUFF! (my first blog giveaway)
Time for me to do something I haven't done yet on this blog. Have a giveaway! That's right, time for some free stuff! Since I don't have a money tree growing in my backyard (boy, wouldn't that be nice), I had to turn to my talents for the prize. Mother's Day is right around the corner, and I bet you haven't gotten her a card yet, have you? What about a gift?
I know there's some of you over-the-top, "I think way out in advance and buy Christmas presents in July" kinda people, but you can still enter for next year's Mother's Day. Glad we got that out of the way! The bottom line is you can win and you hardly have to do anything.
For this fabulous giveaway, I am partnering with my friend Jamie who has beautiful photography (By God's Grace Photography) and a whole lot of great and genuine advice at her blog.
So, here are the rules:
Contest ends Sunday, April 25 at midnight. Check back on Monday to see if you are the winner (I will contact the winner for their mailing address) That's it. Nothing to it. What are you waiting for? Get to clicking and enjoy looking at Jamie's blog!
Have a great week and good luck!

Gettin' Sketchy and Blingy
Howdy,
Prepare to be glitzed! After working on today's card, I am covered in glitter from head to toe. The card is blingerific. Alright, enough of that weirdness. This card starts from this fantastic sketch over at the Get Sketchy Challenge #33. I love circles! This one just called out my name.

The Card:
I've been trying to think of a way to make a "shimmer & shine" card for the April gallery challenge at Papercrafts Mag. I decided to use some terrifically tacky tape and glitter. If you haven't used terrifically tacky tape, you should. I'm just sayin'...It holds onto anything and you can find it at any craft store. Everything but the sentiment was die cut from my Cricut using "George and Basic Shapes". The numbers were cut from the tape. I peeled away one side and pressed them into some super-fine glitter. For the "YOU", I just covered it with red glitter glue. The sentiment was printed using "Cheri" font.
Please enjoy it, but don't go blind from all that shine! Thanks for stopping by.

The Play Date Cafe "Pretty Plums"
Yes, this is a second post today, but I had to get my entry in for The Play Date Cafe this week. They are hosting a challenge that uses these colors:
Can I just start by saying that I loved working with these colors? They are so elegant and feminine. Pulling a card together with these was such a pleasure. I also created this card using the sketch over at 2 Sketches 4 You. You should check it out and play along too. They are also having a design team call. Here is the sketch:
I've been noticing that textures are all the rage. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow me to go out and buy one of those neat-o cutterbugs (trust me, I've already put the bug in husband's ear). So, I turned to my old friend the scor-pal to create that diamond texture. I then embossed that swirl pattern onto the lavender cardstock in clear. I was delighted when the heat gun changed the clear powder to a shade similar to the plum color. For the focal, I took some ribbon I've had forever (bought it for $1 at Target, love those dollar bins) and sewed it into a pretty flower. I grabbed that gorgeous metal piece from an old scrapbook that some friends gave me. Here's a great tip - keep your eye out for some really great things you can use for your cards. Once you actively start looking for them, you'll find that anything can be turned into something beautiful. With the addition of a little bling, the card was complete.
Thanks for stopping by! Leave me a little love if you like it. :)
and finally, my card:

An "Off-The-Wall" Take on a Moxie Fab Challenge
My son starts baseball this week. Tonight is his first game. He can hardly contain his excitement. Mom and dad are about to lose every weekend for the next two months. I was really surprised at how intense the schedule was for 7-yr olds. Their first week he has three games. I'm guessing he's gonna be one tuckered out little man by the end of the weekend. My husband and I have waited for these years though. We truly enjoy encouraging and helping our children stretch their wings and grow. And if that means a few weekends away from home, we gladly accept it. In a few weeks, my daughter will be starting pee-wee as well, and in fact, my hubs and I will loosen up our throwing arms and be in a league of our own. We are the poster family for baseball. Summer truly is upon us and I can't hardly wait (especially the working on my tan part)!
Today I wanted to share a card with you that a friend asked me to make for her. It is a "New Home" card. The idea is hers and I must say that I really had fun with this. I used a sketch from over at Moxie Fab World highlighted from the new "Go-To Sketches" magazine. Check it out and play along!

I originally bought this paper because of the honeycomb side, but found that the other side would make a wonderfully tacky old wallpaper. I distressed the three strips several different ways. I started by crumbling them up, then I used an edge distressor. I took a sponge dauber to the edges with CTMH desert sand, and for the panel on the left, I sprayed it with "coffee shop" glimmer mist. I was really holding out on buying that glimmer mist because it is so expensive, but I broke down and used a coupon on it. I love the stuff! Here's a hint though, use an old cardboard box to spray in, I made a really big mess of my desk the first time I used it. The sentiment I made on my computer using "inkspot" font from dafont.com. I am absolutely obsessed with fonts and dafont.com has the best ones. Here's the best part...wait for it....they're FREE!
So, did you get a good laugh out of it? I hope so. Keep checking back this week, I've got something really big up my sleeve.
Lata!

Headless Chicken
I know all of you have had those moments where you feel like you are running around like a chicken with its' head cut off. No direction, just running as fast as you can, not knowing where you are going or what you are doing. Just call me "headless chicken" today. I have a list of things to do that is a mile long. Here's just a brief glimpse of what is going through my head right now:
1) Must force myself to make and submit Christmas cards to Papercrafts Magazine despite the inability to "think Merry" in the middle of April...(insert random thought here - my stamps suck and I don't have anything new enough to use, should I buy some new ones just for this call? - end random thought)
2) Bathroom downstairs is growing a bacteria colony that may soon take over; I really need to clean it.
3) Did somebody come ransack my house overnight? There's literally crap thrown everywhere and I don't even know where to start. I really want to sweep up that shed dog hair that is swirling around in my dining room, but it can wait for the other million things I need to do.
4) What exactly IS that pile of goo on my countertop?
5) I'm feeling really guilty about my kids going back to school today leaving my youngest to look at me with puppy eyes and ask if we can play outside together.
6) Unable to take action on #5 because of the GIANT pile of mulch that is still sitting in my driveway causing me to smell whiffs of poo throughout my home. Said pile needs to be shoveled and relocated asap.
7) I really need to get in a good, long workout to burn off my mega-fat.
I told you, pure madness. I'm gonna take a deep breath now and prioritize. Perhaps I'll find my head under the couch once I start picking up (although I'm not counting on it). I did want to share with you guys today the card that I promised I would share once the challenge I entered it into was over, so here it is:
This was created based on a sketch provided by Papercrafts Magazine that was found in the newly released "Go-To Sketches". I had the idea of using shiny paper and making it look like a mirror.
I found it really difficult to photograph a mirror so I had to take the picture off to the side a bit so that I wouldn't catch my own reflection.
I thought the sentiment was only fitting for the use of the mirror. I didn't win the challenge, but I'm really proud of this card and the idea.
Alright, better start tackling my day. Have a great one!

Living In A Ding-Dong World
Are you feeling like a ding-dong today?
Well don't. We are only human. Besides, I've got a good dingy-dong story for you.
Yesterday, I was having some serious issues with my right contact. That doggone thing wouldn't rest comfortably in my eye. Any contact wearer knows that when you are having issues, you take it out, rinse it with solution, and put it back in. Soooo, I did just that. Once I put that contact back in, I swear to you that I thought my eyeball was going to fall out. The stinging and pain that proceeded to take place was overly excruciating. I'm pretty sure my eye was melting, ok, maybe not, but it felt like it. I was fumbling around trying to get that thing out as fast as possible, all the while thinking, "what in the world just happened?" Finally, after what looked like a combination of a ritualistic indian dance and a chicken flapping, I popped that contact out. My eye still burned....in fact, there are still minute traces of burning even now. So, did you figure out what I did? Well, in contact wearer world, there are two kinds of solutions, a saline and one that I call "fizzy stuff". "Fizzy stuff" has peroxide and other nasty chemicals in it, and it specifically states on the back - DO NOT put into your eye after rinsing with this. That's right, I used the "fizzy stuff". Mistake noted. Note to self: ALWAYS check the label before using.
Today's ding-dong mistake brought to you by good 'ole human me.
(btw, my body also decided to rebel against me yesterday and make me eat 3 pieces of pizza, candy and Olive Garden...none of which are permissable on my diet. It was all my body. None of my own doing. It made me do it.)

Disco Fever
I have a confession, I am a Disco freak junkie! I'm sure many of you think that Disco is dead, but in the Miller residence, it can be found playing on a daily basis. There's just something about the groove of it that makes me wanna get up and dance. I've always been a "groovy beat" kinda girl, ever since my trombone tootin' days in high school. Maybe that's why my husband finds it so difficult to keep up with me when I jam it out on Guitar Hero. I find that game surprisingly easy and uber fun. Disco gives me inspiration for when I am making cards. I "shake my booty" (a little homage to KC & the Sunshine band) in my chair as I'm cutting away. I found this great website that I cue up while I'm in crafty dreamland. It is called Pandora. All you do is type in your favorite artist, and the site goes to work for you finding similar songs/artists to play. Easy peasy, 1-2-3easie! While groovin' away today, I pulled together a card for Laura's sketch over at 2 Sketches 4 You. The original sketch looked like this:
And my card:
I just came off of the sketch challenge over at The Play Date Cafe, so I had these colors on the brain still. I've also been trying to simplify my cards with the use of alot of white space. All that white can make such an elegant piece. As you can see, I turned the bottom focal on its side, but otherwise stuck pretty close to the sketch. The heart flowers were stamped with a CTMH set, and then I used a marker to draw in the stems. I then added some angled lines with my souffle white gel pen (hard to see in the photo). The quilted background was created by turning the card on an angle and using my Scor-pal to make the indentations. I carried over the heart theme by stampin several hearts in a row to create that border at the top. I love how this card turned out. Thank you for visiting today and remember that Disco is not dead! {wink}

It's a Play Date Kinda Day
Hello beautiful fellow stampers (and others)! I must admit that this weather has got me all tied up in knots. Every Spring I have the same dilemma, do I go outside and enjoy it while it's here, or do I stay inside and work on cleaning my house? As is evidenced by the piles of dishes, laundry and clutter, outside wins every time. My kids and I have customarily named it "driveway time". You see, we have a very long driveway, and well, we all sorta have a phobia of wet grass. So, we limit our activities to the driveway. It suffices and many memories are made on that black top.
Today I'm posting a card for The Play Date Cafe Challenge #23. The inspirational colors were a navy blue, crystal blue and white as seen in the photo below. There were so many pieces that I could've drawn from in this picture, but I chose that cute little fan-folded paper at the bottom right corner, and the use of textures from the background.

The dark blue background texture was created by first embossing that cross pattern in white. I then chalked over it with the navy. To keep the chalk from rubbing off, I sprayed it with hairspray. Thank you for taking a look at today's post.
(p.s. I'm super excited that my entry for last week's Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World got picked as one of the top 5. Check out the winners here, scroll down to the end of the post.)

Colorful Tuesday Trigger
Man, already 11 am today. This week is Spring Break for my kids and it already feels like there isn't enough time in the day to get done what I need to get done. Hence, my late entry for this week's Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World. I did this one really quickly, so it isn't anything special...very simple. I clear embossed that background pattern and then chalked over it. It has been a long time since I've gotten out my chalks. Thanks for looking.

Some New Challenges
Hello. What a beautfiul God-given day today. A perfect breeze, gorgeous sun and a warmth that reminds you of summer days. Of course, Indiana is under a "Fire Advisory" today. My husband and I laughed heartily at that. I guess the conditions are just right for a person throwing a cigarette out their window to start some wild brush fires. Apparently, we haven't been under an advisory of this sort for over a decade. I'm not exactly sure what "brush" we have in our city that is going to catch fire. Go figure. Anyway, I wanted to post my card for today. I'm trying out some new challenges. I combined the colors from the color challenge at ColourQ with the sketch over at 2 Sketches 4 You. I adore this color combo, mostly because it contains my favorite color, teal (here it's called Bermuda Bay). It's the exact color I just got done painting my craft room! Here is the sketch and color combo:
And my card was inspired by a pajama top that my daughter has:

I used my cricut to cut out those letters and that ladybug. The flowers were made with punches. Glad you could take a look today. Have a fabulous Easter weekend and remember that Christ made a huge sacrifice for you. As one of my friends posted on Facebook today, "When Jesus said, "It is finished", my life began." Praise Him for a new life and fresh starts.

Weather The Storms
Hi friends. Just a quick post today to share this cute little card with you. (I really want to hurry so I can go outside and enjoy this 80 degree weather) I made this card based on the sketch over at Get Sketchy. The sketch looks like this:
And here is my take on it:
I had bought a pack of oval shaped layovers a week or so ago and when I saw the sketch, thought they would be perfect for that focal point. I've been wanting to do an umbrella ever since I discovered that when cutting out outlines of flowers on my cricut, the petal shapes would make great raindrops. The umbrella was printed clipart and I cut out the panels so that little glitter packet could show through. I had kept that glitter packet from a Christmas card. Finding a sentiment was a challenge, but I've been thinking alot lately about all of my friends who are struggling with illnesses or finances. So, I thought this was fitting. Thanks for taking a look today.
